Now also available on Amazon!

Rosemary

The paperback version of The Steerswoman is now available on Amazon.

It’s been available at CreateSpace’s own online store for a week or so  — but Amazon’s always been my best sales channel, so I’m hoping for a decent number of sales.

Some people still aren’t into ebooks, generally, bless ’em.  And why should they be denied access to Rowan’s world?  I do have plans to do the rest of the series as trade paperbacks, as well, and I’m currently aiming at December, as I have Many Things needing my attention at the moment.

I’m really pleased with the look and feel of the book.   This is fun.

In other news: back from the mighty eclipse trip, which involved two days driving there, two days driving back; two nights in motels; two nights visiting pals; four nights in Smoky Mountain National Park; days and days of driving to identify good eclipse-watching spots; and one day of sheer luck in hitting an unexpected excellent viewing spot.  More on that soon.

Shadow of a tree during the eclipse, where each gap between the leaves acts as a little pinhole projector.  Click to embiggen!

I m extremely interested in your books – the concept of an analytic hero/rationalist story has always been very enticing to me and the null-a books for instance are some favorite of mine. I read nothing but terrific things about your storytelling and I m eager to start.
However I m torn here : from what I understand your plan is for a 6 book serie, out of which 4 are out with 2 to go. But the last one dates from 2004. I hope you can excuse me for my bluntness, because I very much respect writers and I’m sure you have put a lot of energy into writing, but when will the two others book will be out ?

It s really depressing when the story is left mid-air, unresolved. When the story is really good, and everything I read about it makes me feel it’s going to be wonderful, it feels terrible : at best it’s an itch that you can’t scratch and just doesn’t quite go away, at worst when the writing is outstanding it feels like a breakup without closure. I would completely respect if you had other priorities at the moment, because life doesn’t stop just for the readers and there are many things more important.
I d just like to know if there’s a definite plan to release the sequel in the next year or if it’s rather a project at some point as you have more important matter to deal with immediately or even another book in mind.

In any case, wishing you the best

Short version: The big gap was due to the fact that I had to get a day-job. I never do well on my writing side when I have a day-job. I’ve always been that way.

The reason I had to get a day-job was that the sales of my books at that time was not sufficient to support me (especially not with the cost of health insurance before the Affordable Care Act).

However, years later, when my publisher let my books go out of print, I recovered the rights, and put out ebook versions on my own.

And, interestingly, they sold much better this time around. Apparently, my readership lives on the Internet. Who knew? (Not Del Rey, clearly. The only ebook they did of my work was — get ready for it — Book Four of the series. Not books One, Two, or Three. Only Book Four.)

Upshot: When my day-job dumped me, there was no longer any neeed to look for another job.

Is there a plan to release the next book in 2018? It would be hard to call it a “plan.” I’m doing this (as we pros say) “on spec,” with no contract in hand, no publisher signed up.

However, there is an intention to complete it early next year, and I am acting toward that end.

It’s no secret that Book 5 has been giving me some difficulties. There’s much that I am still wrestling with. As many of the posts in this blog will attest.

But I am at work on it.

First of all – thank you so much for taking the time to answer me. It s always nice when an author takes some precious time for this.
Second – I much appreciate your very honest answer. It s always easier to read than write and like I said I m very respectful of the writers that find themselves before a blank page and literally create something out of nothing but their imagination. It requires some kickass creative power.
Third – what you say about publisher/ self publishing and internet is extremely interesting it makes me think of the “1000 true fan” theory that has gained some traction the last years. Bottom line contrary to the obvious every artist doesn’t need so much an intricate marketing machine as much as offer something of enough value to capture a community of dedicated fan that will buy and keep the contact with this community. The fact you sell better on internet through your personal efforts rather than a publisher seems to prove it right.

After reading this, I feel all the more validated in my interest. I bought the first book just so you know.

I wish you good luck on your future work and a great 2018 year in general to makeup for the tough luck you might have had in the past!
