Bye-bye Amazon

I got a note from Amazon the other day:

For well over a decade, the Amazon Associates Program has worked with thousands of Connecticut residents. Unfortunately, the budget signed by Governor Malloy contains a sales tax provision that compels us to terminate this program for Connecticut-based participants effective immediately. It specifically imposes the collection of taxes from consumers on sales by online retailers – including but not limited to those referred by Connecticut-based affiliates like you – even if those retailers have no physical presence in the state. (….)

Drat. I got a nice little boost of bucks from the Associates Program.

Well, for all of you who have been nice enough to get your Amazon purchases by going through my link, Thank You. It’s been great.

Of course, should I ever manage to move to another state…. Say, New Hampshire? I’d be back in business!

Jeez, just when I got used to visiting your website before I ordered anything through Amazon.

      I know! Darnit!

Well, at least I can stop being all mercantile and reminding people to buy through my site… Back to my Ivory Tower!

Have you considered Barne & Noble, or Powells, or even, in support of independent bookstores, Indiebound? They all have affiliate programs and one or more of them might not pull out of Connecticut over this.
