The Hobbit is happening
No time to blog until the weekend, but I couldn’t resist passing this on — if you haven’t already seen it. (My thanks to Kate Nepveu for cluing me in!)

That was really lovely. Thank you for sharing. And it’s kind of nice to know that no matter how big or small the production, the first day of shooting/rehearsal is pretty much the same.

Kithica —
Lovely is the right word, I think… I felt so happy to see those beautiful sets again — Bag End, Rivendell. It’s a world that part of me so wishes to be real, and they do such a great job of it.
Ages ago I sat in a theater and saw that horrible Bakshi animated version of the Fellowship of the Rings — made me gag! As I was walking out, I told my friends, “That’s it. Now that someone’s made a CRAP version of this story that’s going to BOMB, the movie industry is going to think this story is crap that bombs, and no one will EVER make a good version!”
Ah, how wrong I was. All it took was 30-odd years passing, and who the hell even remembers the Bakshi version?
Except me. In my nightmares!
Plus: This is the golden age of special effects. If you can imagine it, you can put it on the screen exactly as imagined.
